Summer schedule beginning

Summer schedule goes into effect this weekend, on Sunday. Here’s a reminder from WSF.

The summer 2015 sailing schedule begins Sunday, June 14. The Anacortes/San Juan Islands route will have an additional vessel, and better connections to Anacortes and Friday Harbor during commute hours.

The Anacortes/Sidney, B.C. route will have two daily trips all summer long instead of one.
We recommend making vehicle reservations in advance. WSF releases reservations two weeks before, and then two days before each sailing departs. Reservations are available westbound from Anacortes to Friday Harbor, Lopez, Shaw and Orcas. Eastbound reservations to Anacortes are available from Friday Harbor and Orcas Island.

So I had a “bad load” experience today. Fortunately had a reservation for the 10:30 a.m. sailing (Anacortes/Lopez/Shaw/Orcas). Quite a few large overheight and over size vehicles. The crew loaded them down the two sides of the center deck. they were sufficiently wide that there wasn’t really room for even a small vehicle in the center lane (about 4-5 cars’ worth). They did, however, load a bunch of motorcycles bound for probably Orcas (not Lopez) in the center lane that same 4-5 car lengths back from the head of the ferry. As a result, at least two people that I know of that were on standby in the Lopez line didn’t make it on. I don’t know if ANYONE in the Lopez standby line made it on the boat. But there could have been four more cars if the deck crew had loaded the boat more efficiently. I have photos – will upload them when I can figure out how to.
