The WSF reservation website and phone system will be inaccessible tomorrow morning (Wednesday, September 28) between 10 a.m. and noon. During this time you will not be able to make, change, or cancel any reservations. Learn more here.
The fall sailing schedule begins on Sunday, Sept. 18. Please check online at http://www.wsdot.com/Ferries/Schedule/ or pick up a purple schedule, no. 242, at the terminals or on the vessels.
The peak season surcharge is in effect through Sept. 30.
The following reminder comes from John Whetten, our representative on the local Ferry Advisory Committee:
Lynne Griffith, head of Washington State Ferries, will be visiting Lopez Island on Thursday afternoon, August 11. She will conduct a “Town Hall”-type meeting at the Lopez Community Center from 4-5:30pm.
The head of ferries doesn’t visit the islands very often. This is a chance for you to hear what is going on with our ferry system, to impress upon her the importance of ferries to our economy (and our survival!), and to ask questions relative to service, fares, reservations, and anything else relative to ferries.
Please attend if you can. And, please spread this message to others.
WSF released the following bulletin about increased traffic this weekend.
The annual Doe Bay Fest on Orcas Island will bring extra traffic to the Anacortes/San Juan Islands route Thursday, 8/4 through Sunday, 8/7. To help accommodate additional traffic, there will be an extra 8:50 p.m. sailing from Anacortes to Orcas Island on 8/4 and 8/5. On Sunday, 8/7, there will be an extra 10:30 p.m. sailing from Orcas. Customers should plan to arrive 45-60 minutes in advance of all Anacortes and Orcas Island departures. Reservations and a limited number of drive-up spaces are available for all sailings.

According to this article in the San Juan Islander, WSF has reviewed the new 30-minute arrival rule and decided to keep it in place. I am wondering why the recent F.R.O.G. survey includes questions about this rule if a decision was already made. Can the transportation commission overrule WSF’s decision?
WSF has discovered a problem with an emergency shutdown device on the M/V Klahowya’s engine, and all inter-island sailings have been cancelled until further notice. Crews have dispatched to repair the vessel, but inter-island travel will be extremely limited for the remainder of the service day. We apologize for the inconvenience. Note: Inter-island service is reflected by the light blue background on the printed schedule.
To help accommodate travel between islands, WSF has coordinated several additional sailings with other vessels on this route:
ELWHA: Eastbound from Friday Harbor – There will be an additional 2:40 pm sailing from Orcas Island, 2:50 pmfrom Shaw and 3:20 pm from Lopez, arriving in Anacortes at 4:00 pm (estimated one hour behind schedule.)
Additionally, the 6:30 pm from Friday Harbor will make extra stops: 7:15 pm from Orcas, 7:30 pm from Shaw and7:50 pm from Lopez, arriving in Anacortes at 8:35 pm (estimated one hour behind schedule.)
YAKIMA: Westbound from Anacortes – Yakima will leave Anacortes at 5:10 pm, making extra stops at Shaw, Orcas and Friday Harbor. Additional stops will occur at 5:50 pm from Lopez, 6:10 pm from Shaw and 6:30 pm from Orcas, arriving in Friday Harbor at 7:10 pm.
Reservation holders will be able to sail on their reserved sailings, though some boats may be late due to making extra inter-island stops. Reservations were relaxed as a precaution. No penalty for no-shows. We will send notification as necessary.
Passengers will be taken on a first come, first served basis, and there might not be space. Arrive early for the added sailings. Walk on space available on all sailings.
