Transportation bill passes, includes money for WSF

The President signed the transportation funding bill on Friday which includes $1.7 billion for transportation projects in Washington State and preserves dedicated funding sources for Washington State Ferries.

“Senator Murray fought to include dedicated highway funding paid out of the Highway Trust Fund for our nation’s ferry system in the compromise transportation reauthorization bill. The final bill will include $67 million for ferry systems nationwide. These funds will be distributed by formula, and of that total, up to $20 million would be for WSF annually.”

Transportation jobs bill passed in Sentate

From Assistant Secretary David Moseley’s weekly update:

“On Wednesday, U.S. Sen. Patty Murray announced she has included several amendments in the bipartisan Senate surface transportation reauthorization bill that would boost Washington transportation and job growth. The legislation would double the level of funding authorized for ferry transportation and create a team within the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) at the U.S. Department of Transportation that would consolidate federal ferry activities across FHWA, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and other agencies. This included authorization for ferries to compete for FTA’s Clean Fuels grant program, allowing WSF to access federal funding for clean fuel propulsion systems. I am extremely grateful to Sen. Murray and her efforts on behalf of ferry riders and the state of Washington.”
